Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that defenders William Saliba and forward Gabriel Martinelli will not participate in the upcoming Carabao Cup fourth round match against Brighton & Hove Albion. Both players are currently undergoing assessments to determine the severity of their respective injuries.
Saliba sustained his injury during the first half of Arsenal’s recent 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, requiring him to leave the pitch at half-time. Meanwhile, Martinelli experienced discomfort during stoppage time of the same match, which led to him limping off the field. Arteta acknowledged the situation, stating that while Saliba will definitely miss the Brighton fixture, the duration of his absence remains uncertain. He remarked that further evaluation is needed to understand the full extent of the injury.
As for Martinelli, Arteta indicated that it is also likely he will be sidelined for this match, with additional tests planned to assess his condition. However, the manager confirmed that other key players, including Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, and Bukayo Saka, who all had minor knocks during the encounter against Palace, will be available for selection against Brighton.
Arsenal currently sits at the top of the Premier League table after an impressive start to the season, having accumulated nine games worth of points. With ambitions of winning silverware, the Gunners are keen to progress in the Carabao Cup while maintaining their strong league form. This season has seen Arsenal not only performing well but also demonstrating exceptional physical endurance. They lead the league in distance covered per game, surpassing even competitors like Manchester City and Leeds United. The team is averaging 114.9 kilometres per match, an increase from last season’s average of 110.6 kilometres, showcasing their improved fitness levels and work rate.
